ARPIARIAN Arpiar (Armenian: Արփիար Արփիարյան) was born in Samsun (Turkey) on December 21, 1951. Armenian writer, publicist, literary critic, public and political figure. Gh. Alishan was his teacher. Arpiaryan was one of the founders of newspapers “Araratyan ynkerutyun hayotsi” (Arm: «Արարատյան ընկերություն հայոցի» and “Arevelk” (Arm: «Արևելք») (Constantinople). He was the editor of periodicals (“Masis”, “Hayrenik”, “Nor kyank”, “Hay Handes”, “Shirak”, a correspondent at “Mshak” for 30 years. Because of the prosecution of the Turkish government Arpiaryan went abroad in 1896. He touched upon social, political and cultural issues in his articles. 

In his Literary works Arpiaryan depicted social and moral tragedies, the difficult political conditions of the Western Armenians: “The price of a dream” (Arm: Երազի մը գինը, Yerazi me kine), 1884, “A joke” (Arm: Կատակ մը, Gadag me) 1884, “The idiot” (Ապուշը, Abushe), 1886, “The gold bracelet” (Ոսկի ապրջան, Vosgi abrchan) 1906, “Until when” (Մինչև երբ, Minchev erb),1907, The crimson offering (Arm: Կարմիր ժամուց, Garmir Jamuts) 1909. Arpiaryan is one of the followers of realism in the Western Armenian literature. 

 A. Arpiaryan died on February 12, 1908 in Cairo.
