BYUZANDATSI Norayr (Stepan Gazezian) was born on March 4, 1844 in Constantinople. An Armenian linguist, specialist in Armenian Studies, member of the Mekhitarist Congregation of Venice, a priest (1866). In 1866-68 he was a teacher at Rafaelian gymnasium in Venice, then at the Mkhitaryan gymnasium in Chalcedon. In 1867 Byuzandatsi became the editor of the Armenological journal “Bazmavep”. In 1968–69 he was the head of the Matenadaran. In 1870 he renounced his spiritual rank and left for Paris, then for Constantinople, where he published his work "Armenian lexicology" (1880). In 1882 the famous linguist settled in Stockholm. He used linguistic facts and studied etymology in his "Armenian-French Dictionary" (1884). His work "Koryun Vardapet and New Translations" (1990) is a philological and linguistic analysis of Koryun's book “The Life of Mashtots”. Byuzandatsi also studied the works of Agatangeghos, Pavstos Buzand, Movses Khorenatsi and others. In his book “The Critics of Haybusak” published in 1925 he analyzed the work of Gh. Alishan. Numerous dictionaries and research of Byuzandatsi remained unpublished.
