SAHYAN Hamo (Grigoryan Hmayak) was born on April 14, 1914 in the village of Lor (now in Syunik reagion of RA). Armenian poet. He graduated from Baku Pedagogical Institute in 1939. Sahyan worked at the periodicals “Sisiani Harvatsayin” (1939–1941), “Khorhrdayin Grogh” (Baku, 1939–1941), “Avangard” (1951-54) and “Vozni” (1954-55) and was the chief editor of ''Grakan tert''  (1965-67). Saryan's poems were published in 1930 and the poem “Nairyan Green Poplar” that he wrote in the front become well-known. Sahyan's poetry is singled out by love towards nature and human and by diversity of artistic images. He published the collections “On the banks of Vorotan” (1946), “On the peak” (1955),  “Armenia in the songs” (1962),  “Nairyan green poplar” (1958), ''Before Sunset'' (1964), "Song of the Cliff" (1968), ''My years'' (1970). Being the singer of nature he personified nature and its phenomena. In the philosophical ideology coming from laws of nature he showed the forms of human life.

The aesthetic diversity of his poetry was created through the reciprocal, living movement of human and nature. Sahyan poetry was rich with love and patriotic moods. In the collections “Sezam open” (1972, Soviet Armenia state award 1975), “Iriknahats” (1977),Hamo Sahyan and Hrant Matevosyan (on the right). “Green-red autumn” (1980), “Mint flower” (1986) Sahyan revealed a new world of human emotional drama. His poetic hero is the one who is strongly connected to nature.

A number of Sahyan's poems are dedicated to past, childhood that have an actual meaning and publicity. He wrote ''hayrenner'' as well. Sahyan translated also the works of A. Pushkin, S. Yesenin, G. Lorca.

He died on July 17, 1993, in Yerevan.

There is a cultural centre ''Hamo Sahyan'' in Yerevan.
